Helvetica Review

Do you think the Helvetica typeface is good or bad? Why?
I like Helvetica typeface. I think it is very interesting and when I see the font of restaurant or clothes store. I see the unique characteristics of variety font. I didn’t know what Helvetica is until I watched the movie. When I walk on the street I noticed Helvetica typeface is all around me. I felt that this is very interesting that I know something about Helvetica and I can see each font’s characteristics. In my opinion, Helvetica can show individual person’s feelings by using typeface.
Who was your favorite type or graphic designer interviewed in the movie, and why?
I like David Carson. His interview was interesting and he seemed to respect Helvetica. I really liked about he uses typeface depends on emotion so, people can tell whatever fonts are representing.
Write a one or two paragraph review of the movie
Personally, I really liked this movie. I am not that good at art or graphic design but, through this movie I learned more about graphic design can represent emotions or whoever designer wants to say. After the movie, I noticed Helvetica is all around me and I just think that it is amazing.

Assignment #7

1.    The Thames at Westminster (Westminster Bridge)
·    In my opinion, Monet used limited color in this image.
·    I think he used analogous color schemes also, he used monochromatic which is the color mixtures of white, black and one hue.
·    This image gives me feel like lonely, sad, and I picture of myself in deep thinking time. I think it is because he used vibrant color. I see gray, white, black, and dark green colors in this image.

2.    Houses of Parliament, London, Sun Breaking Through the Fog
·     He used broad colors in this image.
·     I think he used tetradic color scheme, in this image rich color scheme offers plenty of possibilities for variation.
·     When I first saw this picture, I thought of the movie named the lord of the rings. I remember the main character tried to rid of the ring in this kind of same picture scene. I feel nervousness, scariness. I see the top and bottom as fire because the color red, orange, and yellow mix also, I see purple and dark blue.

3.    Le Parlement, Effet de Brouillard
·   I see this picture as same as first one. I think he used limited color.
·    He used analogous color schemes in this image. This schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.
·    I see black, white, and grey. This picture gives me feel peaceful and comfortable. In the lake, two men are fishing peacefully.

4.    Houses of Parliament, London
·    This image looks he used limited color for sec but, few more seconds later I found out he used broad color in this picture.
·    I am not sure what scheme he used in this picture, but I can see colors here as yellow, green, purple, white, and light red. I think this picture mixed well with warm and cool colors.
·   This picture gives me feel anxious, scary, and I feel storm is coming soon. So I would say this particular picture gives me uncomfortable feeling.

I truly enjoyed this assignment. I found out more about myself by taking the personality test. Also, I had a chance to ask myself, “What kind of personality do I have?”, “Does this test result represent me?”, “Am I being myself all of the time?” I looked at the test results and compared. The answer was simple. I am being Sunny all of the time. Sometimes, I think of my ideal personality and try to be like that person. But, I noticed that it’s a lie to me and my friends. I want to be the person who can make any persons day a happy day. Through this personality test, I have found to like myself more and accept me as the Sunny that I am. I sometimes dream of myself working in a human society. I think my working style would be with two or three people and we would cooperate with each other very well. I heard many people that nursing job is very stressful and hard job but, now that I have confidence in personality and try to be always optimistic. I am sure this will help me to live in nursing field. I will keep trying to become loving and care person so I can become a SunnySunshine nurse to every patients. This assignment is a great opportunity to consider for a better future and I am glad that I can share this with my classmates.

HAHAHA sunny..

I interviewed with Judit Wallace. I met her here in Lake Washington Technical College through tutoring program. I did math tutor for her and got know her, I found out she is a RN nurse. She is taking some classes to get bachelor. It was pleasure to meet her and I’m so glad that I had chance to interview with who has my ideal job.
Here are questions I asked her and she emailed to me.
1. How do you like your job?
I work in a sub-acute rehabilitation center, and I really enjoy working with patient recovering after total knee and hip replacement, or after open heart surgery.

2. What were your qualifications towards getting the job?
I had previous nursing experience as an LPN, and I received great training from leading hospitals as a student RN.

3. What training do you need to maintain your job?
We have monthly in services to cover new subjects on patient care issues, and changing protocols, as well as new medications and regulations. Also to keep the license active we need to have certain number of CE credits.

5. What are the pros and cons?
I like primary care nursing that offers more personalized care with the patient. Follow up on their recovery, direct contact with patient and with their family. They usually spend 2-8 weeks recovering. The cons, I would rather work 12Hr. shift, instead of my 8Hr, benefits could be better.

6. What some industry changes you are seeing?
Nurses need higher education and more experience, not like in the past, to find a good job, and good luck get into acute care hospital.

Salaried jobs in particular may be difficult to find as more companies contract with freelancers rather than hire their own photographers. Those who succeed in landing a salaried job or attracting enough work to earn a living by freelancing are likely to be adept at operating a business and to be among the most creative. They will be able to find and exploit the new opportunities available from rapidly changing technologies. Related work experience, job-related training, or some unique skill or talent—such as a background in computers or electronics or knowledge of a second language—also improve a photographer's job prospects.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition, Photographers, on the Internet at http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos264.htm (visited January 12, 2011).

-Reaching my Goal-

When I graduate from college, I would like to become a nurse—more specifically an anesthetist. Becoming an anesthetist is my goal and my ideal job out of college, but before that I will have to become a registered nurse first and have two years of experience as an RN before applying to become an anesthetist. I love helping people and furthermore, I want to go to other countries to do missionary work and help children and sick people in third world countries to have better access to health resources such as vaccines and health education. I like working with other people, so becoming a nurse would fit my personality and I would have a lot of opportunity to work with patients, doctors, nurses, and other health professionals. In this line of work, I would have to follow the doctor’s orders, so this would be executing the design of others. I really do not care about the salary because I love helping people, but I would accept a competitive starting wage. Being a nurse is not currently heavily computer-based, but it may become that way in the future with up and coming technology such as using touch screen tablet for patient charts.  Nurses usually work in hospitals or nursing homes, so this could be agency or corporate employment. I heard that Washington State does not have any programs to train anesthetists, so I may have to go to graduate school out of state. I am already employed as a nursing assistant and I am volunteering at the University of Washington Medical Center, which is actively preparing me to reach my goal.
